Abraxas Power Corp. and EDF Group are seeking a Chief Marketing Officer for the the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) green hydrogen and ammonia project in Central Newfoundland. This is a joint venture between these leading energy transition companies.

Under direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for managing all aspects of securing green ammonia offtake for a new P2X facility in Atlantic Canada. The CMO role primarily involves strategic offtake planning, establishing relationships with key off-takers, negotiating commercial contracts, and understanding the renewable ammonia marketplace. This position will also work closely with project leadership to ensure offtake satisfies project financing criteria to successfully FID the world-scale project. The project consists of up to 3GW Wind, 2+ GW of Electrolysis, and 1MTPA of Ammonia at an expected cost of approximately $10B.
Location: This position will be based in Houston, TX , Toronto, Canada or Paris, France. The ideal candidate will be local or open to relocation.
Remote work mode may be considered for exceptional candidates in select locations.
- Responsible for managing commercial negotiations with potential off takers from initial LOIs to signing of binding offtake agreements; binding offtake agreements supportive of project financing are critical to reaching Final Investment Decision on the project.
- Actively monitor market conditions and competitive landscape to understand key dynamics when developing perspective customers.
- Develop pricing and hedging strategies for long-term offtake agreements, in cooperation with the project financing organization and 3rd party financial advisors.
- Develop a strong network amongst off-takers and other relevant stakeholders, particularly in European markets.
- Integrate the logistic framework and conditions into the offtake contracts as far as needed, coordinating with transport and shipping partners.
- Ensure the integration offtake perspectives into project development (logistics, certification, developing financial model inputs, supporting tenders etc.)
- Effectively communicate offtake progress to both project leadership and the project Board of Directors
Fiscal Responsibilities: Analysis and negotiation of long-term commercial contracts, contracting external advisors.
Supervision of Others
Supervision and direction of project staff, including marketing managers, and analysts; as well as supervision of external project advisors.
Physical Requirements
Travel to Newfoundland, Canada project site having varying terrain and weather conditions.
- Holds a university degree in Engineering, Economics and/or related study.
- Ten or more years of progressive experience in related roles (trading, origination, sales, business development) required.
- Negotiated and executed offtake contracts that underwrite bankability of large investment projects preferred.
- Reasonable understanding of renewable energy generation, hydrogen production/distribution and ammonia production
- Experienced interpreter of market data, developing analytical reports, and presentations to senior management and key stakeholders
- Strong networker, participates in networking / policy development events representing the company.
- Experienced in analysis of policy developments, regulatory compliance, active feedback mechanisms and understanding of decision structures within the EU preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
The preferred candidate will have experience developing commercial relationships and leading the negotiation and execution of significant long-term commodity contracts.
