Research Security Officer

Job Description

RESEARCH SECURITY OFFICER, Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), reporting to the Chief Research Compliance Officer, to oversee several important compliance functions as well as serving supporting researchers in their safe and secure research computing and data sharing and storage activities; provide daily administrative oversight for Research Information Security, in conjunction with OVPR’s Office of Research Computing and Data (ORCD) and with MIT Information Systems and Technology (IS&T); and support the Institute’s efforts to promote international research collaborations in a manner that is consistent with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidance pertaining to research security.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a related field or four years of relevant experience; an additional minimum of seven years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic research institution, including progressively responsible administrative experience; extensive knowledge of compliance principles, terminology, and regulatory requirements that impact the research endeavors of academic research institutions; demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills including expertise in building and managing complex relationships across organizational boundaries; ability to effectively collaborate with faculty and staff in units that vary greatly in size and organizational structure; solid organizational skills, attention to detail and dependability; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences, including faculty and staff, and represent OVPR as needed. PREFERRED: Experience managing research security or compliance programs within an R1 academic institution with significant life sciences research; experience in program development and management, and research-related administration; proven collaborative, team-oriented leadership ability and well developed interpersonal and communications skills; possession of or working towards a professional certification: Certified Information Security Auditor (CISA), Certified Risk & Information Systems Controls (CRISC), etc.,; and Master’s degree.
